For this assignment, we will return to these sections on that page, but this time, we will also follow the links to the first tab, the Agile Manifesto.

Read those sections, and pages linked to by the keywords Agile Manifesto. Reading the 12 principles may also help, but those will be a focus of a future assignment.

Then answer these questions:

  1. (10 pts) Please fill in the information at the top of this homework sheet, including your name and umail address. Put the time your discussion section starts (4pm, 5pm, 6pm) in the space indicated (the one you are registered for—even if you usually attend a different one.) If the other two items apply, please fill them in as well. Please do this every single time you submit homework for this class.

  2. The description of Agile includes both mention of the Agile mindset as well as Agile methodologies.

    1. (10 pts) To the best of your understanding and in your own words (not just copying down words from the articles), what is the essence of the Agile mindset? (Answer as if you were asked this question in an interview for an internship or job at a software company.)

    2. (10 pts) What are three examples of Agile methodologies? You can just name them; you don’t have to explain each in detail.

    3. (10 pts) What makes these (the answers to your previous question) methodologies rather than part of the Agile Mindset?

  3. The Agile Manifesto states:

    We are uncovering better ways of developing software by doing it and helping others do it. Through this work we have come to value:

    • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
    • Working software over comprehensive documentation
    • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
    • Responding to change over following a plan

    That is, while there is value in the items on the right, we value the items on the left more.

    The authors included these words at the end of the manifesto.

    Some have pointed out that there is a danger in enthusiastically embracing the values of the Agile Manifesto without keeping this last line in mind. Suppose you were asked to argue that point of view in a debate. What arguments would you make for the value of each of the items on the right?
